Add another bedroom to the house… in the Attic

Attic BedroomAn easy way to increase the value of your house and to provide yourself with a guest room is to convert your unused attic.   Though there is some upfront costs of about $48,000, you will most likely recoup 83% of the costs when you sell your house.

I think this is a great way to go.  It allows  your guests to have a good deal of privacy while greatly adding to the resale price of your house.   So instead of adding to a extension onto some part of your ground floor, use the unused space above first.

Open up your kitchen with an island

Add more counter space to your kitchen with hiring a contractor.   I have never thought I would like to buy another piece of furniture to add in the kitchen but this piece has changed my mind.

Our island has now one of the most used items in our kitchen.  Daily, I am using it for different things from a cutting board to a buffet table.   So, don’t be afraid to add one to your home.  I don’t regret mine.

Futons are making their way back into people’s living rooms

You know how trends have a way of showing back up after a few years, the time has come back for the futon.   I have always liked the futon as a furniture piece, it is practical and comfortable.

There are many different grades or types of futon mattresses. Basic futon mattresses are just foam. More sophisticated futon mattresses have varying layers of foam and padding. Some very high quality futons have coils in the core that are surrounded by foam and sometimes some padding too.

A Standard Futon Mattress is 6″ thick, 100% cotton and is perfect for “A” frame futon or futon beds. This mattress folds well and is great to pull out when the guests are over.

The Basic Futon Mattress is also 6″ thick with not only a cotton core, but foam as well. It contains an extra large (3-3/8″) layer of 1.2 density foam. This mattress is ideal for inexpensive bi-fold futons.

The Deluxe Futon Mattress is 7″ thick with a cotton and double foam core. It has two 2-1/2″ convoluted layers of 1.2 density foam (filled with premium cotton batting) and provides unmatched plushness and softness not found in single foam core futons. This mattress is a great premium bi-fold step up.

The Max Futon Mattress is 8″ thick, the largest thickness you can find on a futon mattress. It has a cotton and double foam core with not one, but two jumbo 4-1/4″ convoluted layers of 1.2 density foam, which is filled with premium cotton batting. This futon is designed for those who are interested in the confirmation and cushioning of a mostly foam futon. The Max futon mattress is lighter and more resilient than most cotton futons.

The Sweet Dreams Futon Mattress is 8″ of thick DuPont Hollofil polyester wrap/triple foam core. It has three layers of 2-1/2″ convoluted 1.2 density foam (filled with DuPont Hollofil polyester). The DuPont Hollofil polyester is more buoyant, resilient and longer lasting than regular polyester. This combination creates the most luxurious sitting and plush sleeping surface in the futon industry. The Sweet Dreams Futon Mattress is best suited for bi-folds and platform bed use.

And lastly, the Royal Futon Mattress, which is the king of all futon mattresses. The Royal mattress has heat-tempered pocketed coils and retains its original shape and performance over a lifetime of use. The coils used in this mattress start in a ferocious furnace at a blazing 600 degrees, which helps the coils develop near-permanent tension and resiliency. This mattress also contains two layers of convoluted foam and long fiber-staple cotton for a nice, comfortable sleep.

When deciding which kind to buy, you need to take budget into consideration, but also remember to decide how long you would like the mattress to last, and don’t forget, you spend almost one third of your life sleeping or in bed, so it’s always great to try out which kinds of mattresses are most comfortable to you. http://www.thefutonsite.com/

A little for you, A little for me

Well, it’s that time of year again, time for Thanksgiving and Black Friday, the two busiest days of my life. One day I spent cooking and eating the greatest food on Earth, then I have a midday nap and I get ready to stand out in the cold so that I can get amazing shopping deals.  I am going to be a little sneakier this year and fancy up my house at the same time.  I don’t think there is a problem with being a little selfish during this season.

Though, I have figure out a way to even get more off on my Black Friday sales.  My master plan this year is to get gift certificates that at a discount on sites like citydeals or others and then use them for payment on my items.  This is what I call a double bonus, a genius move on my part!

Doing the Improvements for less

I don’t know about you, but I always feel like I want to improve some part of my house.   With all the improvements that I have put into my house, I have really started to notice my expenses are adding up.  I was looking for ways to keep the costs down when I came across this article.

By Keith Barrett

Do you look around your house and think about making some improvements? Don’t worry – you’re not alone! Many of us also consider making changes to our properties but we’re often put off by the high costs that are involved. In this article we take a closer look at how you can make home improvements without blowing your budget.

It’s clear that the costs associated with such improvements useful fall into two categories. Firstly, you have the costs associated with hiring help to get the work done. Secondly, you’ll also have to find the money to pay for the cost of any materials that are required. If you want to spend less then you’ll need to concentrate on spending less on each of these two areas.

Reducing the cost of hiring people can be easier to tackle than you might think. There are a number of steps that you can take to make things cheaper. An obvious one would be to concentrate on doing more of the work yourself. If you don’t feel that you’ve got the necessary skills, then maybe you’ve got some friends who could help. Even if they’re willing to work for a reduced rate, it will help in keeping costs down.

Many people imagine that they can’t cut corners when it comes to materials. They worry that visitors to their home will notice if designer products haven’t been used. The exact opposite is often true. You can usually make a stunning impact by using cheaper materials and concentrating your efforts on really adding that personal touch.
